The jewellery market was a different place before Mejuri came along and shook things up. Before the Toronto-based brand arrived on the scene, offering fine jewellery for a fraction of the price — and racking up celebrity fans, social media hype and editor respect alike — a pair of gold earrings or a gem-encrusted ring was likely to set you back an arm and a leg. Now you can fill your jewellery box with the brand’s chic, minimal designs and still be able to pay your rent (prices start at £25 for a 14-carat yellow gold stud and stretch up to £3,900 for a diamond-encrusted choker).

But we’re not here to review those expensive, flashy pieces. Oh no. With yet another key jewellery-buying date on the horizon — Mother’s Day — we jumped at the chance to review Mejuri’s bestsellers, testing them for wearability, comfort and to see if they tarnish. Lucky for us, the brand has put together its very own Mother’s Day gift guide, packed with classic gold and silver earrings, bracelets and necklaces that your mum will wear and treasure every day.

Read on for our top picks and our honest thoughts.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. Mejuri Small Hoops, £58

I try not to wear my jewellery in the shower or bath — while 14k solid gold jewellery can be showered and sweated in, it’s not recommended. However, it’s sometimes easy to forget, especially when pieces are as small and dainty as these mini hoops.

After a few trips in and out of the shower, these have shown no sign of tarnish. They are a bit fiddly to put on though, and I worry that they’ll snap if I’m too heavy-handed. Mejuri recommends not sleeping in these, either. If you share my concerns, go for Mejuri’s Single Mini Hoops, £45, as they have a slightly thicker clasp and can be slept in.

Mejuri Bold Letter Pendant Necklace, £128

When in doubt, I’ve been reaching for this initial pendant necklace. It’s a simple yet classic design that elevates my usual stacked chains look. It’s also a great choice for an extra special gift.

Mejuri Bold Huggie Hoops, £148

Finally! Small-hoop, huggie earrings that I can attest are comfy enough to sleep in and easy to attach and detach. There are no fiddly or flimsy clasps here.

Mejuri Charlotte Bold Hoops, £98

This is the Mejuri piece that earns me the most compliments. I’m not surprised — they’re bold, chunky and a unique update on the classic hoop. It feels solid but isn’t heavy to wear.

Mejuri Charlotte Bold Ring, £88

Mejuri’s Charlotte range strikes gold again. Even though it’s chunky, the grooved design is elegant and makes the ring look even more luxurious than it is. Most importantly, I’ve wet my ring several times while washing my hands or using hand sanitiser and it remains tarnish-free and gleaming.

Mejuri Stacker Ring, £78

The perfect wafer-thin stacker ring. Ideal for those who find wearing rings uncomfortable or who spend their days at a computer.

Mejuri Tube Hoops, £68

I’ve been on the hunt for some larger hoops that aren’t too heavy to wear all day. Some reviewers on Mejuri’s website complain about the weight of these but I had no problem.

Mejuri Chain Necklace White Gold, £148

This chain is so fine, I’m almost scared to wear it for fear of catching it accidentally. For other clumsy girls out there, thicker alternatives include the Double Curb Chain Necklace, £88, and the Bold Herringbone Chain Necklace, £128.

Mejuri Zodiac Pendant Necklace, £98

A grown-up and elegant take on the zodiac jewellery trend.

Mejuri Dôme Ring, £48

Silver jewellery fans, this is the ring for you. A statement in itself or as part of a layered look, it has a nice weight to it and is comfortable. Take care as it can scratch easily (and maybe avoid wearing it with any other abrasive rings).

Mejuri Rolo Chain Bracelet, £148

Again, beautiful on but a little too thin and dainty for my liking. Instead, I have my eye on the thicker and more robust Double Curb Chain Bracelet, £68.

Mejuri Signet Ring, £178

A thinner take on the classic signet ring, which can also be engraved. Personally, I’ve been loving the simplicity of a blank design.

Mejuri Silver Bangle, £148

I’ve never been one for bracelets but Mejuri’s bangle might just change that. It’s simple, elegant, refined and isn’t too chunky to be a nuisance when typing away at a laptop all day.
