How to Make Your Lips Plump | Big Lips Tutorial

1. Over-line It

Kathleen Lights shares with us her technique to plump and juicy lips. I love pairing this trick with a bold eye look, feather brows, and dewy skin for a healthy glow from within look.

What You’ll Need:

  • Lip scrub (either homemade with sugar and oil, or store bought)
  • Plumping glosses (any plumper from your favorite brand)
  • Long-wearing liner (preferably in a shade a bit deeper than your own skin tone to bring definition and dimension to your smackers)
  • Lip primer
  • Shimmery gloss

How To:

  1. Use a scrub to gently exfoliate your lips and remove the dead skin to create a smooth finish. If you don’t have a scrub, combine sugar and oil to make a homemade lip scrub.
  2. Apply plumper on your lips for an hour, during this time you can move on to your eye or face makeup. After an hour, remove the plumper with a facial wipe, you should already see a difference.
  3. Glide on your primer, making sure you cover the border of your lips where we’ll be applying liner to over-line. This will keep your lipstick or gloss from bleeding out and help it last all day long.
  4. Line over the border of your bottom lip and bringing it down just a bit so that you’re slightly extending the area. Stay within the lines as you line towards the corners so that it stays looking natural and pouty.
  5. Repeat the process beginning with your cupid’s bow so you have a guide for how pouty your upper lips will look. Then begin from the corners moving toward your cupid’s bow. Remember that we don’t over-line on the corners!
  6. Finish off with a lipstick or lipgloss and enjoy your new pout!

2. Contour It

If you’re a fan of glamorous red carpet makeup, Huda Kattan has you covered. Contouring isn’t just for the face anymore, your lips get a little bit of drama as well. Her tutorial focuses on how to define your mouth for a lifted and brightened look, and contouring your lips for a bitten look.

What You’ll Need:

  • Concealer that is one shade darker than your skin tone (too dark and it may look like a mustache or won’t look natural)
  • Small makeup brush (preferably small and flat)
  • Liner
  • Powder foundation (the same one you’re wearing now)
  • Baking powder

How To:

  1. Draw a thin contour line down your philtrum using your dark concealer contour shade and a small makeup brush.
  2. Using just a bit of concealer, redraw your Cupid’s bow at the center of the philtrum using the line you drew earlier as a guide.
  3. Apply concealer outside the corner, which will make your mouth wider perfect for beauties that have small and thin lips.
  4. Carefully overline your lips.
  5. Draw a small line at the center of our bottom lip and a quarter of the way from the corners of your upper lips. Using the same liner, color in the corners of your lips.
  6. Apply a balm, color, or gloss in the areas where you don’t have a contour. Blend it in using your fingers.
  7. Set the contour outside your mouth using the same foundation shade on your face.
  8. Apply baking powder outside of where you applied your contour outside your mouth to brighten the area.
  9. Finish off with a shimmery lip gloss!

If you haven’t graduated from lip smackers, Anita Samantha has just the trick for you.

What You’ll Need:

  •  1 tsp sugar (any kind of sugar, to exfoliate)
  • 1 1/2 Oil (extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, to hydrate and nourish)
  • Oil-free face, eye, and lip makeup remover (to prep your smackers)
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Teaspoon

How To:

  1. Remove oils, dirt, and makeup using your oil-free makeup remover.
  2. Combine the sugar and your chosen oil in a small mixing bowl to create your homemade treatment.
  3. Apply the treatment and let sit for at least five minutes.
