How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler Using Items at Home

1. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Spoon

What You’ll Need:

How To:

  1. Warm a cup of water in a microwave for a minute with just enough water to fully submerge the shovel of the spoon.
  2. Dip the metal spoon in warm water for 30 seconds.
  3. Wipe the spoon dry with a clean towel, then hold the spoon against your wrist to check if it’s cool enough to hold against your skin.
  4. Press the spoon against your eyelids with the bottom of the spoon facing outwards.
  5. Lift and push your lashes against the bottom of the spoon for 10 seconds per section.

Tip: Note that we can’t microwave metal items, so make sure your spoon isn’t in your cup before heating the water!

2. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Toothbrush

What You’ll Need:

How To:

  1. Grab a new, unused toothbrush. I wouldn’t recommend using an old one, it’s unsanitary and we’ll need the bristles to be in good condition.
  2. If you don’t have hot, running water, heat up a cup of water for a minute in the microwave.
  3. Leave your toothbrush under hot running water for a few seconds, or dip the toothbrush in your cup of hot water.
  4. Tap your toothbrush onto a dry, clean towel to shake off the water. Flick the excess water onto the towel, making your toothbrush bristles as dry as possible.
  5. Lift and brush up your lashes from the root and hold it in place for 10 seconds per section.

3. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Finger Press

What You’ll Need:

  • Absolutely nothing!

How To:

  1. Clean your hands with soap and water. Since you’ll be touching your eyes in this trick, don’t use rubbing alcohol to clean your hands.
  2. Rub your hands together to warm them up, or blow on them with hot breath. Make sure your fingertips are thoroughly warmed up.
  3. Use the lengths of your fingers to lift your lashes and hold them in place. You can use your ring finger since it’s the weakest of your fingers! The same tip applies to when you apply concealer using your fingers.
  4. Keep pressing them to your lids for 10 seconds or until you achieve the ideal lift!

Keep in mind that rubbing and friction are causes for hair damage, so refrain from tugging too much on your lashes!

4. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Q-Tip

What You’ll Need:

How To:

  1. Cut off the cotton ends of your Q-tip so that you’re left with the middle section. Make sure to wipe off the cotton fibers of the Q-tip so that they don’t stick to your freshly applied mascara!
  2. Swipe one or two layers of mascara on your lashes.
  3. Use the Q-tips to hold up your lashes from the base, the mid-section, then at the tips. By lifting per section, you’ll be able to create a curl rather than stick-straight lashes. The trick is for the q-tip to curl the lashes while the waxy formula of your mascara should help hold the lift and curl, keeping it in place.

5. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Mascara

What You’ll Need:

  • Mascara (preferably one with a waxy, curl-holding formula)
  • Optional: Blowdryer

How To:

  1. Swipe on one layer of mascara, gliding in a zigzag motion from the roots to the tips of your lashes. This will make sure that your lash strands don’t clump, especially since we’ll be adding another coat.
  2. Layer on the second coat of mascara, beginning from the roots and moving in zigzag motions as you make your way to the tips of the lashes.
  3. Once you reach the tips of the lashes, hold your mascara wand in place and push the tips slightly toward the lash line to create a curl.
  4. Hold the tips of your lashes for 10 seconds or longer, until your mascara dries.
  5. Move on to your next eye if you’re satisfied with the curl.
  6. Optional Step: Turn your blowdryer to its lowest heat and fan setting. Close your eyes and angle your blowdryer so that it points upward, facing the bottom of your chin. The angle will push your lashes upward, while the heat will help your mascara dry quicker and help lock in the curl you created.

I recommend that you finish one eye before proceeding to the other. You don’t want your mascara to dry before you’re able to curl it using the mascara wand. Your mascara should dry after the second coat, not the first!

6. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Aloe Vera

aloe vera gel | makeup hacks

What You’ll Need:

How To:

  1. Lightly dip your clean eyelash or mascara spoolie into your alcohol-free aloe vera gel.
  2. Scrape off the excess onto a piece of tissue as you only want a thin coating of gel on your spoolie.
  3. Swipe on the aloe vera gel with your spoolie in the same manner you would mascara – in a back and forth motion, beginning from the roots to the tips.

This trick is great if you’re not planning on using mascara afterward. Aloe vera is a very dense and heavy gel and may clump when applied underneath mascara.

7. How to Curl Your Eyelashes Without a Curler: Lash Salon

The beauty industry spoils us beauties so much! There are now lash salons popping out, offering lash extension and lash perming services! If you wear makeup daily or want to achieve an I-woke-up-like-this look, consider perming your lashes.

Lash perms last approximately for three months, and if it’s not glamorous enough you can get lash extensions instead! You can achieve fuller and longer lashes and never worry about having to curl your lashes ever again.

Check out this video by Wishtrend TV for tips and tricks on keeping our lashes healthy:

A lot of the curling techniques require the use of heat, so err on the side of caution always! Check on the temperature of your make-shift curling tool before letting it touch your skin and lashes. Keep in mind that the skin around the eyes is the thinnest on your face.

I’d still recommend that you keep an eyelash curler handy, but hacks like these are equally useful. Never get caught in a beauty emergency again!
