party dresses

There’s no point in denying that party season will be a little different this year. But whether we’re allowed a New Year’s Eve or not, I’ve found some party dresses that will get you into the spirit nonetheless.

While they may seem frivolous, they will forever be a worthy wardrobe investment. You might think you’ll only ever need it for party season, but buy right and you’ll have a timeless piece to see you through many an event to come, including weddings, christenings and office parties (remember those?).

Back in February, the AW20 collections dictated the trends we would see come winter, festive dressing included. There were plenty of jewel tones, vintage metallics and re-imagined LBDs, seen at the likes of Victoria Beckham, Paco Rabanne Halpern and Preen.

I’ll be including some designer and high-street inspiration in my edit, so you can find a little something uplifting no matter your budget. Shop my edit of the best party dresses below, and remember the uplifting power of a good dress.

Sequin dresses

I understand sequins aren’t for everyone, but there really is an option to suit all personalities out there. If you’re feeling OTT, go for full-on 80s sequins. But for something more muted, choose a matte or dark sequin accent.

White party dresses

Forget any preconceptions you might have about wearing white in winter, there really is very little as chic as a creamy satin gown or minimal white suit.

Black dresses

When in doubt, a little black dress will see you through any occasion. This season, opt for a square 90s neckline or bould 80s shoulders. Cut out details were everywhere on the catwalk, but if that’s a little too daring, opt for a plunging neckline or back keyhole detail.

Dresses with sleeves

The emphasis on statement sleeves this season means there are plenty of stylish options about if you’re not keen on showing your arms.

Designer party dresses

While they may seem pricey, designer dresses can be worth the extra money, thanks to more durable materials and impeccable craftsmanship. You can shop my favourite designer party dresses below, including xx, xx and xx.
